Reading Workshop
Build habits, stamina, and deeper understanding of texts.
FIFTH-GRADE SUBJECT GUIDE
We’ll grow as thoughtful readers, clear writers, active listeners, and confident speakers.
This year we use a different text each quarter to drive our curriculum. These fiction, and non-fiction, texts focus on specific societal issues and concerns, while continuing to address the necessary skills of summarizing, identifying main idea/supporting details, grade-appropriate vocabulary development, theme and author's purpose.
We will spend a fair amount of time addressing additional layers of figurative language and continue to develop the kids writing skills, including proper usage and grammar, as they create narratives, summarize passages, create research based projects and hone their speaking and listening skills with partner work, group work and classroom presentations.
